I have always loved the unique look of checkered floors. It adds a ton of character to any room, and it can be used with all kinds of design styles from country to modern.
This is the perfect farm kitchen! I love the combination of the checkered floor, white cabinets and wood counters! I was just at a co-worker's beautiful house last night, and she has a butcher's block like this one in her kitchen... I LOVE IT!
What a grand entry way! Very glamourous! This is how I would do a checkered floor!
Being that this kitchen is pretty small, the big checks on the floor actually make this space look bigger!
I love that they painted these wood floors to make a checkered pattern, it looks lovely!
Isn't this the cutest little bistro table!? This would be adorable in a small apartment.
Do any of you have a checkered floor? How did you make it work?

The feel of a checkered floor is so cozy and in the first image - it perfect with that chopping block (have always wanted one). But your second image shows that such floors can be very regal as well. Beautiful images. (by the way - thanks for such kind words this morning - makes my day, truly)
ReplyDeleteIn my college apartment we had mini checkers in our bathroom and it was my favorite thing about the place! haha

I would probably use it in the kitchen or on the terrace.
One of the houses my family lived when I was a little girl had a room with a checkered floor. It was such a fun room. I remember my siblings and I and are big group of friends (all under the age of 12) hanging out in there, all soaking wet and muddy from playing in our river, banging on the piano and playing games. Summer memories. :)

i have really mixed feelings about checkered floors. i think they can either be really glamorous (in a grand foyer, for instance) or too kitschy (bad 50s diner, anyone?). you did find some very lovely examples though! that second space is absolutely to die for.
ReplyDeleteI adore checkered floors! They have been the deciding factor in choosing a place to live many times! Once I painted a green and white checkered floor in my bedroom - lots of work, but I loved it. Gorgeous photos!!
ReplyDeleteLove the checkered floors! The pink and white dress of mine that you were asking about is actually a Tibi romper--I love it! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeletei looooove that first picture of the kitchen with the checkered floors!!! perfect!!

the second image is amazing! I have never actually met a house with checkered floors. they are pretty bold and cool!
ReplyDeletego for it! That first pic is my absolute fav. I recently put in a new kitchen and I now have the black and white tile checked floor and I love it! - i didn't go on the diagonal (too expensive) but still love it. good luck! x
ReplyDeleteThose painted floorboards are soooooooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteI've always LOVED Checkered floors too :-) Awww, I'm having so much fun looking through your blog :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't have one, but I love painted floors in general - so I fully support this!
ReplyDeleteThese are some great inspiration photos.

Big patterned checkered design only gives the room an illusion that it's small, not big. Small patterns of that checkered (that make everybody dizzy) will make that small kitchen look breathable.
