I never really understood the obsession that is "Jersey Shore." I mean, really...is it real or scripted? That I can not answer, but all I know is what I have experienced this weekend...and that I dare to say was way better then any Snooki/ The Situation episode!
I actually have only watched two episodes of The Jersey Shore on MTV. If you read this blog regularly, you probably know I live
at the Jersey shore. No one I know looks or acts like any of the cast members so I was always under the impression that they
had to be acting..No one could
actually look and act like that...or do they? Well, the answer to that question is a big fat YES!
This weekend was my friends bachelorette party at the Jersey shore. We went to a West Long Branch which is a recently developed, "upper scale" beach town with nice restaurants and boutique stores. It is no where near Seaside where the show is taped.
Anyway, after dinner we decided to have drinks and go dancing at
Le Club (which the name itself is kind of a joke). Since we ate at the restaurant, we went right upstairs, but outside there was a line with about a 20 min wait to get in. As I glanced out to check out the line, all my eyes caught was glimpses of too tight, too short dresses, with too much cleavage and too much makeup...all in all "too much." But who am I to judge? I have been married for 2 years and out of touch with "the club/single life."
Nothing could have prepared me for what I was going to experience upstairs...As we walked into
Le Club, I immediately noticed that I was taller then most guys in the place (I'm 5'2 and I was
wearing these shoes)...I thought to myself..what the?? I grabbed my friend Rachel's hand and said "why is everyone so short!" She said..."I was thinking the same thing!!"
Ok, I am being DEAD serious, there was not a guy in there that was taller then 5'4!! Apparently "G.T.L", "bullet proof hair" and juiced up bodies really do exist and there were 100s of them! I have nothing against short men or anything, but this was something out of the twilight zone (and no not
that twilight)! Before we knew it, we were HYSTERICALLY laughing at the scene...Now don't get me wrong, I am fully aware that Jersey has had this "fist pumping" stigma for a while now, but this was different, much much WORSE!
So I guess you could say that I was living in denial, kind of like when the Sopranos were on TV and as an Italian American I would say that it was totally disrespectful, but secretly related to a lot of things that were portrayed. I in NO WAY relate to the Jersey Shore cast or show, but I do have to admit that their "lifestyle" is totally intriguing, addicting, and comical to watch, and when you experience it live it is on another level of juicy entertainment. So if you are in the area, and need a good laugh (or scare) check out the "real" situation...
Has anyone else had this traumatic experience? Thoughts?
PS. Sorry for the lack of bachelorette pictures..I was too busy laughing...I'll take a lot at the wedding ;)
