Tuesday Table-Scape

This is one of those table-scapes that anyone can re-create! I love the mix of corals, turquoise, and greens!

Monday Style

In my opinion, Kate Bosworth's hair always looks great-from her "rolled out of bed" waves to a perfect ballerina bun...here is a how-to that I found on Pintrest...

On another note, thank you for all your well wishes you sent me about hurricane Irene. We are all doing fine here at the Jersey Shore...our house is in tact, and we visited the beach yesterday in LBI- and although it was nearly EMPTY the beach was "A" ok!

My thoughts and prayers go out to all that are stranded, or experiencing any flooding or damage to their homes or property.

So we are headed back to LBI today (family vacay- take 2), and will be there until after labor day. Looking forward to relaxing and spending time with family. There will be some periodic posts here on Lilac and Grey, so stay tuned!

Come On, Irene...

Today I would have been packing for a week to stay at a beach house in LBI with my family, but the threat of hurricane Irene has everyone evacuating the Island (as if the earthquake wasn't enough for the week)....I couldn't be more disappointed...

So while I am stuck in my house (when I should be laying on the beach) maybe I will get a good chunk of my book finished?

Of course, no hurricane would be fun with out the large presence of pink champagne! Stocking up!

Enjoy your weekend, hurricane and all!

Wedding Season Part 11

You know what September means right? Back to school, cooler weather, shorter days, and oh yeah, wedding season part 2.  There is just something about getting married in the late summer/early fall... the weather is crisper with low humidity, and most people are done vacationing... so you know they will attend. Here are some wedding looks for the up-coming wedding season...

Mint On My Mind

If there was ever a dress made for me, this would be it!! I am head over heels IN LOVE! Now I just need to find where to buy it AND where to wear it!

So this dress got me thinking that I may want to paint one of the rooms in our house a minty green...

By the way, I REALLY missed out on the Joss and Main moroccan pouf sale..hopefully they will have another one :/

What do you think?

Monday Style

Monday Style

I love the classic simplicity of this outfit. It is so basic and easy to wear. I especially love the Kate Spade flats

I had a wonderfully relaxing weekend (which was the plan). Here I am (above) with my A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E nephew on the boat. We saw a sting ray in the water so we couldn't go in (boo). We also tried a new(er) Portugese restaurant again in town the we had been to once, and forgot how good it was!  Sunday, I cooked a scaled down version of these, and then went furniture shopping for the house.  Overall, no complaints here! I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Quote of the Day

“I found that dance was key to keeping depression out of my life. When you dance, things just go away, things don't seem so bad. There's no better way to take care of health than through something as joyous and beautiful as dance.”

Weekend Recipe: Whole Wheat Brown Sugar Banana Bread Pancakes

 makes 12 pancakes
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2/3 cup milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
3 large ripe bananas, mashed
2 tablespoons butter, melted
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Measure out the milk and add the vanilla extract to it. Whisk together the dry ingredients and add in milk and vanilla, stirring to combine. The mixture will still be dry. Add in mashed bananas and mix. Add in melted butter and stir until batter is somewhat smooth.
Heat a skillet or grilled on medium heat. Using a 1/3 cup measure, spoon batter into rounds and cook until bubbles form on top – about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for a minute or two more. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve hot with butter and syrup, or the vanilla maple glaze.
Note: if you don’t have/can’t find whole wheat pastry flour, use 1 cup of regular whole wheat and 1 cup of all purpose. Or 2 cups of all purpose.

Vanilla Maple Glaze
1/2 cup maple syrup
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir until smooth. Pour over pancakes.

I'm Susi and I write as a guest blogger for DesignShuffle.com, a fabulous social media site that promotes interior designers and their work from around the world. My writing focuses on things I'm passionate about: interior design, decorating ideas, home furnishings, gardening, travel and art. I get to look at gorgeous things all day and write about them. I'm a very lucky girl!

I am so happy to be visiting Lilac and Grey. (Thanks, Cara!) I get teased that all the rooms in my Victorian are grey but to me they are all different shades of grey; the kitchen is more blue/green/grey while the living room is a stone grey and our bedroom is mushroom. Ok, so they are all grey. I'm happy to share 8 of my favorite grey rooms

Oh, and did you see the chocolate, olive oil and sea salt brownies recipe that Cara posted? I'll definitely be making those in my blue/green/grey kitchen.

This traditional entry is such a lovely soft grey. Like a Seattle dayówhere the house is located.
Matters of Style (via)

Love the layers of soft greys in this home office nook of former Domino Editor, Tori Mellott.† I love the curtains too.
Pinterest (via)

A minimal modern kitchen doesnít have to be stark white. I love the pale dove grey against the light wood floors and white. Feels very Scandinavian.
Poppy Talk (via)

On the other end of the grey spectrum is this charcoal kitchen. Very dramatic. Love the rustic table paired with industrial sleek stainless steelóone of my current favorite kitchen design ideas.
Pinterest (via)

This grey reminds me of thunderstorms, how the clouds get almost a green hue to them.† It is formal room but feels very calm.
Little Green Notebook (via)

Grey truly is a neutral that can be paired with anything and look good. Love how the dresser, headboard and wall color are all essentially the same.
Pinterest (via)

One of my favorite color combinations is grey and yellow, with a healthy dose of white. Love this pairing in a bedroom design.
Tumblr (via)

Okay, so this isn't really a room, more of hallway. But I love the idea of hidden doors and secret rooms. Plus, the blue-grey is gorgeous.

Guest Post: 5 Things I Love About Summer

Hi all! This is Geena (Cara’s sister and Summer Intern) and I am guest blogging here today to share with you the 5 Things I Love about Summer...
  1. Summer Sunsets- There is nothing like sitting on the porch watching the sunset after the temperature drops a few degrees...

  1. The Ocean- When I’m in the ocean, especially at the Jersey Shore, it feels like I am in a time machine back to my childhood. I love to close my eyes, lie on my back and float over waves. I also love to body surf back to shore (something my day taught us how to “perfect” when we were kids)

  1. Tiki Bars- I love sitting outside at our favorite waterfront Tiki bar, sipping a few cocktails, and listening live music...

  1. TAN TAN TAN- Being Italian does entitle me to an olive skin tone that tans easily and rarely burns (unlike Cara)

  1. Driving a Rustic Convertible- AKA my Jeep Wrangler. Sometimes I think it’s time to start driving a car that doesn’t feel like a go-cart, but then summer comes and I remember why I LOVE my Jeep

 Thanks G!

What are some of your favorite things about summer?
