Measure of Success

I have no Halloween costume photos to report today. just a scary manicure. If you dressed up this year, I would love to hear about them!

Today I am being featured on the site In Good Measure, with a Q&A interview with Brandon, in a series called Measure of Success. I answer some real estate and career questions, and give some "success" advice. You can read it HERE and let me know what you think!

Tweet of the Day

A courageous woman is in control of her fear, &

as a result, is in control of her life.

When I was younger, I always had an uneasy feeling about Halloween. It wasn't so much that I was "scared" of all the ghosts and goblins, but uneasy about what I would "be." It was always hard for me to choose a costume, because I never had an overwhelming feeling of wanting to be anything other then myself. I just wasn't comfortable with it. Although, Halloween is not for me, I can see other's fascination with it. It is a thrill to be able to cover yourself up, and be "someone else" for the night. The only part of Halloween that was intriguing to me was to fill up a pillow case full of candy and to "trade" Twix for Reeses Pieces with my brother at the end of the night. I also still dream about going over to Linda's house and eating her homemade pumpkin pie after a night of trick or treating. I also do not understand why people dress up as pimps and sexy nurses, and spend over $100 to go to a Halloween themed party out at a club or bar. I did it once, but never again. I would much rather go out to dinner.  Anyway, that is just my little humble opinion, and when people ask me what I am going to be for Halloween, the answer is me. I guess I would never be a good actress :/

How do you feel about Halloween?

Tuesday Table-Scape

This is exactly what I am looking for for our kitchen. A large, rustic farm table. Those chairs fit wonderfully in this space, but I would need something more sturdy. This table-scape is perfectly perfect.

Perfectly Gwyneth.

Monday Motto

Mmm, cheese doodles and wine. Sounds like a plan for this Monday night! How was your weekend my loves? We celebrated my birthday this weekend with a trip to Atlantic City. We had a wonderful meal at Buddakan, and I got a recipe for this amazing martini that I plan to make for our holiday party (recipe to come soon.) Yesterday I made homemade sauce and meatballs, which came out delicious. Actually, it was probably the best I have ever made!

Beige Interiors

Beige is an interesting color, despite the fact that most people would say beige is the color of boring. When beige is incorporated into home dÈcor correctly, it can be just as beautiful as any other color. The trick is mix up your beige and stick to either cool or warm shades with tip top lighting fixtures to match.

For instance, a very pale yellow will pair well with deeper, warm tones of beige, cream and tan. Accent a French beige, which is a deeper, browner shade of beige with cool shades of ecru and grey. Check out how some of these rooms prove that beige is beautiful too. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

Beautiful Beige Interiors
In this living room, off-white walls and sheer white curtains are accented with a beige sofa and accent chairs. Most of the books, and even the bookcase, are beige. The effect here is serene and cozy.
Beautiful Beige Interiors
In this vignette of another living room, beige hues are feminine and chic without being too frilly. The curtains here are especially lovely, with their almost metallic sheen and the greyish undertones of the beige sofa is another nice touch.
Beautiful Beige Interiors

In this dining room, beige walls and dining room chairs are warm and sunny because they're accented with wood accents, a chandelier and an exotic striped table runner. Love the indoor/outdoor quality of this room too; so great on a nice, sunny day!

In this ultra-feminine bedroom, beige walls and carpet are the accent to white, light gold and mirrored accents. The combination of textures in this bedroom is expertly done too; satins, velvets and shaggy wool carpet can be a great way to play the various shades of beige off of one another.
Beautiful Beige Interiors

Beige, tan and white play together in this cute bedroom for a chic, rustic look. The colors help to accent the nature theme, although an antler floor lamp and twig bedposts help too!

With the right textures, color accents and accessories, hopefully these chic, and beautiful, rooms have shown that beige is anything but boring.

Thank you Lindsey and Arcadian Lighting for visiting to share their take on Beautiful Beige Interiors. For more beautiful light fixture options, check 'em out!

Two Years + A Giveaway

This past Sunday marks Lilac and Grey's two year anniversary... can you believe it?! I have been blogging for two years already, and it all started with this, my first post.

To celebrate, I am hosting a Shabby Apple Giveaway! If you are not familiar with Shabby Apple, it is a fabulous place to shop for women's clothing, jewelry, and accessories.

While searching their site recently, I noticed that they have a large selection of dresses for women and young girls in a variety of different silhouettes and colors. I fell in love with these vintage inspired dresses.

I still can not believe that I started this blog two years ago in my bedroom, with no idea how to post a picture, let alone make a fancy blog header. At first I sent the link to my friends and family to read- only if they wanted to- I didn't beg (at least I think I didn't). It amazes me daily that so many people read Lilac and Grey now, and I am truly grateful for the opportunities it has presented me, and the connections I have made throughout the years. To show my appreciation for my readers, and with the partnership with Shabby Apple, I would like to giveaway this fabulous "Key To My Heart" necklace.

Here are the rules:
Visit Shabby Apple and leave a comment below. For extra entries, you can "like" Shabby Apple on Facebook
You can also become a follower of Lilac and Grey (if you aren't already)
"like" Lilac and Grey on Facebook or follow Lilac and Grey on Twitter

Quote of the Day

"For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. "

Open Face Fig Sandwich

While blog hopping recently, I came across the food blog, Spoon Fork Bacon (they had me at the title, sorry Rachel).  I went crazy for the open face fig sandwich recipe! They are the perfect lunch, or scale them down for hors d'oeuvres at your next dinner party.

Open Faced Fig Sandwich
Makes 6
honey mustard:
4 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
3 tablespoons light mayonnaise
2 tablespoons nonfat Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
salt and pepper to taste
6 slices walnut-raisin bread or olive bread
9 ounces dry peppered salami, thinly sliced
6 ounces capicola, thinly sliced
6 ounces soppressata, thinly sliced
½ lb black mission figs, stems removed and sliced
honey for drizzling
1. Place all the ingredients for the honey mustard in a bowl and whisk together until fully combined. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Spread about 2 tablespoons of the honey mustard onto each slice of bread.
3. Layer 1 ½ ounces of salami onto each sandwich, followed by 1 ounce of capicola and soppressata.
4. Top each sandwich with some sliced figs and drizzle with honey. Serve

The Un-Traditional Bride

Are you engaged and your idea of a "fairy-tale" dress looks nothing like what you dreamed of in the bridal maggies? Well, I may have found your match!

Unfortunately if you want one of these amazing dresses, you'll have to visit their showroom in Barcelona.

Can you take all this prettiness?

Designer Spotlight: Claire Vivier

I love when people think of ideas and then act on them and make them come true...That is exactly what Claire Vivier did. Claire was working as a journalist for a french television station when she was traveling a lot with her laptop and noticed a lack of anything stylish in the market place to carry it she fabricated her own. In 2006 she launched a line of fabulous bags and accessories that are now sold in some of the hottest stores around.

Some Photos

This past weekend we went to a wedding at a winery on Saturday. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the scenery was perfect.

I broke out my vintage beaded collar, which got rave reviews! Everyone was asking me where I bought it or if it was part of my dress. (I bought it at local vintage store, and the dress is DVF.)

This Lanvin stunner that Staci was wearing deserved it's own seating card! Isn't it drop dead?!

On Sunday we went to the Giants game and had a blast! Too bad they lost (ugh). I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

*BTW, stay tuned this week for a wonderful giveaway I have in store!*

I'll Be Back...

I haven't been on top of my game in the last few weeks. Long story short, I am taking a little break from blogging (not a big break, more like a coffee break.) As always, I want to "thank you", my lovely readers for continuing to read this blog everyday. The love I get back from you is what keeps me going. See you soon!

Is that a Dress?

Dress {Ahem, top} ASOS, Shoes, Brian Atwood

Actually, no it is not. However, you will never guess where this top is from...Asos! Even though Lea Michele tried to get away without wearing pants last night at the American Horror Story premier, I have a feeling this top will be sold out by the end of the week, and many other girls will do the same.

Tuesday Table-Scape

I love this table-scape! It is so different and fun. I have had this bookmarked in my "dinner party" inspiration folder for a while now.  It kind of reminds me of a Dalmatian, no?

Another Collaboration

So the word on the street is that Jason Wu will be the next designer to collaborate with Target. After the whole Missoni debacle, I am not sure how I feel about it. Plus, everything that I have bought from target from a collaboration just sits in the closet (including the Missoni stuff). So what do you think? Will you be excited for Jason Wu?
