Bedroom Art

Our custom tufted headboard finally came in, and now I can start designing our bedroom around it. The headboard is a cream tweed fabric with gold threads. When I saw this piece of art I thought it would be perfect! What do you think?

Weekend Recipe: Coconut Cloud Cake

Did I just die and go to heaven?

Ingredients {Recipe via Martha Stewart}

  • For The Cake

    • 1 cup sifted cake flour
    • 1 1/2 cups superfine sugar
    • 14 large egg whites (1 3/4 cups), room temperature
    • 1 tablespoon warm water
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • For The Seven-Minute Frosting

    • 3 large egg whites
    • 1 1/4 cups sugar
    • 5 tablespoons cold water
    • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For The Topping

    • 3 to 4 cups flaked coconut


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. With a fine sieve, sift together flour and 3/4 cups sugar four times.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed, beat together egg whites and water until foamy. Add salt, cream of tartar, and vanilla; beat until soft peaks form. Increase speed to medium-high and sprinkle in remaining sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat until stiff but not dry.
  3. Transfer to a large bowl. In six additions, sift dry ingredients over meringue, folding in quickly but gently.
  4. Pour batter into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan with removable bottom. Smooth top with an offset spatula. Run a knife through batter to release air bubbles. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until golden brown and springy to touch.
  5. Invert pan on its legs or over the neck of a glass bottle, and let cool completely, about 1 hour.
  6. Make the frosting: In the heatproof bowl of an electric mixer set over a saucepan of simmering water, combine egg whites, sugar, water, and cream of tartar. Cook over medium heat, whisking frequently, until sugar is dissolved and mixture is foamy, about 5 minutes.
  7. Attach the bowl to a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Beat the mixture on high speed until glossy and voluminous, about 7 minutes. Beat in the vanilla.
  8. Carefully run a long offset spatula or knife around the inner and outer perimeter of the cake pan to release cake.
  9. Place on a plate, bottom side up. Using a long serrated knife, carefully slice off 1 1/2 inches from the top of the cake, being sure not to break the layer. Set aside. Cut out a 1-inch-wide, 1-inch-deep channel halfway between the center and edge of cake. Spread icing into channel and over entire layer. Sprinkle with coconut.
  10. Gently place reserved layer on top and ice with remaining frosting. Sprinkle with coconut and serve immediately.

Have a LOVE{LY} Weekend!

Ahh..what a busy week of trying to catch up with work, unpacking, laundry, more work and through a holiday in the mix, and I had one busy bee week! The weekend is not going to be much slower, in fact, I am working and traveling to see my girlfriends and family up north. So excited to see my two besties and their baby bumps! Ekk! And it will be fun to catch up with the {un- preg} besties over a glass of wine. <3

As promised, here are some (actually lots of ) photos from our Vacation in Cabo San Lucas...

Ahh... Where to begin. We stayed at the beautifully luxurious Capella Pedregal Resort, which you can only get to from a privately owned tunnel equipped with torches and iron chandeliers. We were greeted by a friendly staff,  margarita's, and a bottle of tequila in our room upon arrival (we took the bottle home). Every day at 4:00 p.m., fresh guacamole, chips and Corona's was brought to our room. 

Our suite was stunning and beautifully decorated. It was complete with a huge rain shower, soaking tub, gas fireplace, and infinity pool. Each night we arrived back to our room with candles light, and a little sweet treat bedside (my fave were the macaroons!)

For breakfast, we had the choice of room service, or going to the breakfast buffet (we chose buffet) where they had buckets of organic berries and fresh sliced fruit, a smoked salmon station, a large selection of fresh breads and pastries, champagne with fresh peach, orange, or strawberry juice mixers, and omelet station where the chef cooked the most amazing Huevos Rancheros, (you get the idea)...

I am not one for deserts, however this chocolate and fresh sorbet was heaven!

We drank plenty of Margaritas! And not just on the rocks with salt; We tried plum and coconut margaritas, mango margaritas with chili salt, guava, and blue margaritas...all AMAZING!

Phew, so that is our vacation in a nutshell. Would I go back? In a second! I have never met such a polished, and attentive hotel staff then the one at Capella Pedregal. They were all so sweet that I wanted to take them all home with me! Boy do I miss that "turn-down" service! After writing this post, I may need another vacation *wink*

hi, everyone! this is ashley of fashion and lifestyle blog, ashley nicole catherine. i am so excited cara asked me to guest post for her today. cara's blog was one of the first i started reading when i entered the blogosphere three years ago and it's still one of my favorites!

with cara on vacation and my wedding and honeymoon just over three months away, i've had resort wear on the brain. i'd love to wear these easy, beachy pieces on our honeymoon, complete with lots of good reading material!
